Top ten business books I’ve read

I’ve been running Spiel Pro for a bit now and I will be honest, most of my decisions have been by the seat of my pants. I want and need to change that. So, I’ve started forcing myself to read more business books. The post title is a bit of a lie, since I’m not even close to a top ten yet. Here is a look at the books that have made it so far. I will keep adding and adjusting the list as I come across worthy books. What books have made you understand your business better?

1. Boost E-Commerce Sales and Make More Money

This is less of a book and more of a giant checklist. A really, really good checklist. You could spend years reading blogs and listening to podcasts to glean as much basic information that is provided in this book. I keep going back to it over and over. I may just make a big todo list from it. Highly recommended if you are just starting out in e-commerce. Amazon link

2. Traction: How Any Startup Can Achieve Explosive Customer Growth

Wow. Great insight into the ways a startup can gain traction. I don’t think this is just for Startups. Any business could use these techniques to grow their business. I like the idea of testing first. Test small, confirm, then dive it. Definitely a must read. Amazon link

3. Street Smarts: An all-purpose tool kit for entrepreneurs

I thought all sales were good sales. This book made me rethink my margins. I now understand that I need to focus my attention on sales that provide us with a high rate of return. I know it’s not going to be as easy as it sounds, but my understanding of what I need to do is more clear. There are also lots of other little tidbits on running a business. Amazon link

4. Launch: An Internet Millionaire’s Secret Formula To Sell Almost Anything Online, Build A Business You Love, And Live The Life Of Your Dreams

I will admit this trademark formula product pitch stuff in this book is kind of annoying, but the concepts of planning for launching a product are solid. I now have renewed energy to start working on building my Spiel Pro email list. I also now understand more about how to build momentum around a product launch. The book is worth reading around the author’s ego.  Amazon link

5. Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind

I’ve just started this book, but I already know it’s going to make the list. The author uses some solid examples to explain how important positioning is in your product or brand. I’ve already started to analyze the game industry on the things I’m learning in this book. Amazon link
